题  目:Wind-driven water waves and instability of Euler equation

内容简介:In this talk, we give the mathematical theory of wind-generated water waves in the framework of the interface problem between two incompressible inviscid fluids under the influence of gravity. This entails the careful study of the stability of the shear flow solutions to the interface problem of the two-phase Euler equation. Based on a rigorous derivation of the linearized equations about shear flow solutions, we obtained rigorously the linear instability criterion of Miles due to the presence of the critical layer in the steady shear flows. Our analysis is valid even in the presence of surface tension and a vortex sheet (discontinuity in the tangential velocity across the air--sea interface).  We are thus able to give a unified equation including the Kelvin--Helmholtz and quasi-laminar models of wave generation put forward by Miles. This is a joint work with Buhler, Shatah, and Walsh.

报告人简介:曾崇纯教授是动力系统、流体力学(Euler方程)等领域国际上著名的中青年数学家,在Bananch空间中半流的不变流形和不变纤维理论上做出了世界一流水平的成果,与他人合作,在世界上首次获得偏微分方程在无界耗散性扰动下的一些动力系统方面的深刻结果,曾获得美国Career奖和Sloan基金,是美国青年科学家中的佼佼者之一。

2011年入选教育部海外长江学者计划(南开大学)。
